Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House

Joan Sutherland Theatre is the second biggest performance venue in the Sydney Opera House. Named for the legendary Australian soprano, it's the resident home for ballet and theatre companies. Originally called the Opera Theatre, it was renamed in 2012 to honor "the voice of the century," Dame Joan Sutherland. This architectural marvel features unique features: scenery ascends from below the stage, and a net prevents repeat incidents of a certain feathered visitor (a chicken!) gracing the orchestra pit. Witnessing iconic performances from Deborah Cheetham to Yoko Ono, this stage has solidified its place in artistic history. The theatre has been home to many productions across opera (Elektra in 1982), ballet (Swan Lake and Giselle by The Australian Ballet), and musicals, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.

Seating Capacity: 1,507
